James W. Roberts Jr. is a native of Florida and a graduate in business administration from Florida State University. Jim was commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States Army and spent a tour of duty in Vietnam as an Army infantry commander before joining a convenience food store/private brand gasoline retail chain based in the Tampa Bay area. His stint coincided with gas companies and convenience stores combining marketing operations eliminating numerous physical and imagined hurdles along the way. Jim lobbied for self-service gasoline sales approval in the state while identifying properties for new locations and developing freestanding stores and small neighborhood convenience centers.
Initially Representing convenience store chains expanding in Florida, opportunities to represent other high profile users, hospitality users, and other retail property uses led to opportunities to expand the brokerage bringing in associates and clients including Federated Department stores for whom he identified several properties for land bank for future mall development including property now housing several market dominant enclosed regional centers. He served as fee developer for Kmart developing Mission Bell Square in Carrollwood and other properties in Sarasota and South Florida. He partnered with Regency Group developing Regency Square at Brandon, Regency Park North and Regency Lakes in Brandon, FL. Other developer clients included The Lane Company, Trammell Crow Company, The Oxford Group, Western Development Corporation/Mills Corporation, The Sembler Company, Southcoast Developers, Echo Development, The DeBartolo Company, Kite Realty, Kimco and other national, regional and local development companies.
